“Vision is a mental picture of what could be, fueled by a passion that it should be.” - Andy Stanley

Have you ever found yourself feeling overwhelmed by the hustle and bustle of daily life? We all know how easily life can take over with its constant demands, leaving us feeling stuck in routines that no longer feel purposeful. It's easy to wonder, "Am I truly moving forward, or have I just been going through the motions?" Or perhaps you’ve found yourself questioning, “How did I end up here?”

Whether you’re feeling disconnected from your personal vision or you're simply seeking more clarity and direction, the solution may lie in a Personal Vision Retreat. This process is not just about setting goals – it’s about connecting with the deepest parts of yourself and shaping the life you truly want and desire.

In the same way that RJ and I have used vision planning to align our lives and relationship, we hope this blog post (and the resources we’ve created for you) will help you do the same. If you're ready to begin your personal vision journey, keep reading. We’ll guide you through the process, and by the end, you’ll be ready to dive into your very own Personal Vision Retreat.

The Basics: Why a Personal Vision Retreat?

A clear personal vision serves as your compass, guiding you through both the mundane and extraordinary moments of life. By crafting a vision for your life, you create a mental picture of the future you want to experience. This process allows you to:

  • Align your goals and desires

  • Gain clarity and focus on what truly matters

  • Strengthen your sense of purpose and motivation

  • Overcome challenges and build resilience

  • Connect more deeply with yourself, your dreams, and your values

Having a personal vision gives you the clarity to move forward with purpose, ensuring that every decision you make is aligned with your deepest aspirations.

Creating Your Personal Vision Retreat

To start, the Personal Vision Retreat should be a sacred, intentional time that you set aside for yourself. The goal is to disconnect from the distractions of everyday life and focus entirely on your future, your dreams, and your purpose.

I recommend dedicating at least two days for your retreat. It doesn’t have to be complicated—just clear and intentional. The more focused you are, the more you’ll uncover about your desires for the year ahead and beyond.

Here’s a suggested schedule to help you structure your Personal Vision Retreat:

Suggested Schedule

Evening #1 – Start with a relaxed dinner where you reflect on the past year. Take time to consider what worked well and what didn't. Create a calm, peaceful environment to help your mind start to settle into the vision process.

Morning #1 – Review any existing goals or visions you may already have for yourself. Reflect on what you’ve accomplished so far and what areas need more focus. Take time to answer vision questions that explore various aspects of your life, including career, health, relationships, finances, and personal growth.

Lunch Break – Take a break and get some fresh air. Go for a walk, stretch, or do something that helps you reset and gain new energy.

Afternoon #1 – Continue to work through the vision questions, diving deeper into the answers. Pay attention to which questions spark strong emotions or inspire new ideas. Start setting tangible goals and intentions for the year ahead.

Evening #2 – Let the visioning process breathe. Enjoy a relaxing evening and allow your mind to settle. This is the time to reflect and give space to the ideas you’ve explored. Do something you love—watch a movie, read a book, or simply relax with a warm cup of tea.

Morning #2 – Review your goals, refine them, and write them down. Make sure they’re clear, actionable, and aligned with your values. Grab your calendar and time block important dates and events that will support your goals. Create a vision for your future that excites you and motivates you to move forward.
